Synopsis

In 1912 Hans, an art student in Amsterdam, is doing research on an 18th-century windmill-driven carousel of statues of famous women in death poses. He meets Professor Wahl, who owns the mill, and his daughter Helfy, who suffers from a strange illness. When the girl dies and later reappears alive, Hans fears that he is going crazy; then he discovers that the statues are actually petrified corpses of women whose blood the professor has drained to continually revivify his daughter. Hans rescues his own girl friend from the macabre operation and flees from the mill as it bursts into flames, killing both the professor and his daughter.
