Synopsis

Teenagers Monika and Martin make love without taking any precautions, and Monika becomes pregnant. Looking for advice and help, Monika discovers that Martin will not marry her, and her father, a college professor, sends her away. She concludes that an abortion is too dangerous, even when performed by a gynecologist, and decides to have the baby and accept her "false shame." [Portions of the film are instructional, depicting scenes of a sex education class and showing an actual childbirth.]
