Synopsis

Bullivant, a famous criminologist, whom his close friends call "Cascarrabias" (Grouch), as he is perpetually bad- -tempered, lives in retirement on an estate on the outskirts of London with his favorite granddaughter Virginia, whom he expects will marry a nephew, Enrique Loder. However, Enrique has not been heard from for some time as he is away from England. As a result of this, Virginia is being courted by Mr. Jarvis, an older gentleman, whom she met at a party and invited to spend a few days at her grandfather's house. Enrique returns unexpectedly from South Africa, charged with the difficult assignment of secretly transporting a valuable diamond from the mines of Transvaal to his company's office in London. Shortly after greeting his uncle and Virginia, someone attacks Enrique and steals the diamond. Bullivant suspects Jarvis and follows him to London where he attempts to fence the diamond. When Bullivant accuses him, Jarvis returns the diamond and is arrested. Virginia and Enrique reunite.

Notes

Cascarrabias is a Spanish-language version of the 1930 Paramount film Grumpy, which was directed by George Cukor and Cyril Gardner, and starred Cyril Maude and Phillips Holmes. Famous Players-Lasky made an earlier film of Grumpy in 1923. That version was directed by William De Mille and starred Theodore Roberts and Conrad Nagel.
