Synopsis

Mary Lynde agrees to pose as a madonna for Greenwich Village artist Felix Benavente and soon becomes romantically involved with his wealthy friend, Robert Sinclair. Robert lives with Mary for a time, but turns her out when their child is born. Although a poor family pities her and takes her in, the baby grows sick and dies. Several years later, Felix finds Mary living in a Tenderloin dive and asks her to model for a portrait entitled "End of the Forbidden Path." Through Felix, Mary forces Robert to give her money and threatens to expose him publicly unless he breaks off his engagement to Barbara Reynolds and marries her instead. At the altar, however, Mary turns to the congregation and passionately discloses the entire story of their sordid past.
