Synopsis

After a night of dissipation, Dr. Emerson ruins an operation and the patient dies. William Deane, his best friend, and a number of others have heard the doctor state that he had been offered a bribe to let his patient die. Deane, who wishes to steal the doctor's fiancée, informs the police of the proposed bribe, and the doctor is arrested. He escapes by jumping into a river and later meets Deane's little daughter Virginia while the two are boating. When the boat is wrecked, the doctor saves the little girl and returns her to her father with a note warning of revenge. Years later, Deane decides to extract his vengeance by separating Virginia from her fiancé, Tom Pemberton. Conscience stricken, however, the doctor changes his mind and instead forces Deane to accompany him on a voyage upon one of Deane's own leaky vessels. While they are sailing, a storm breaks and the two are never seen again.
