Synopsis

Louise Alford, the daughter of wealthy mill owner John Alford, breaks her engagement with Albert Richards, a minister, because of his constant protests over the oppressive working conditions instituted by her father. Then, while Louise begins a romance with Guy Carleton, Albert encourages the workers to go out on strike. During the work stoppage, Albert meets Marna, a prostitute who used to work in the mill, and falls in love with her while helping her to reform. Later, after the strike has ended, Louise tires of Guy, whom she has married, and decides to get Albert to come back to her. Albert almost gives in, but he finally realizes how far superior Marna is to Louise, and rejects his old sweetheart in order to marry his new one.
