Synopsis

In England, Elsie York's small Hindu statue unsettles her very traditional engagement to Harrington Graeme when yogi Katti Hab kills a man while trying to take the statue back to India. Authorities accuse Harrington of the murder but he is finally acquitted, after which he and Elsie get married. They soon have a child, but Elsie's compulsive gambling, and Harrington's equally compulsive philandering, make the couple appear destined for a divorce. Then, Katti Hab returns, but he dies when the statue, moving on its own, knocks over a lamp and sets fire to the house. The statue melts, and as a result, seemingly lifts a spell from Elsie and Harrington, who are now able to reconcile their differences, and whose fortune is assured when they discover that the head of the statue had hidden dozens of jewels.

Notes

The film was shot at the Balboa Studio in Long Beach under the working title The One-Eyed God. This was the first Knickerbocker Star Feature, the name under which the General Film Co. released their five reel films. Some sources credit H. M. and E. D. Horkheimer with the direction.
