Synopsis

When Joan Thursday loses her department store job because she did not accept the floorwalker's advances, her alcoholic father throws her out of the house. She soon finds new work, however, as a secretary to playwright John Matthias, with whom she begins a romance after John's sweetheart, Venetia Tankerville, leaves him and marries Marbridge, a theatrical backer. John and Joan split up, however, when, over John's objections but with Marbridge's support, Joan becomes an actress. Marbridge tries to seduce Joan after her debut, but Nella, his discarded mistress, breaks in on them and kills him. Joan, whose father has begun to reform, returns to her family, hoping to continue her acting career either alone or with John, should he decide to come back to her.
