Synopsis

Young schoolteacher Mary Adams is so imbued with fantasies of knights in shining armor that when Jim Anthony rescues her from a street ruffian, Mary is convinced that he is her Sir Gallahad. Jim, an embittered inventor turned burglar, marries the girl who is innocent of his illegal dealings. Learning that the mother who deserted him is living in the North Carolina mountains, Jim convinces Mary to go with him to visit her. The mother, a wretched creature, does not recognize her son, but allows them to spend the night. Discovering the bag of stolen jewels that Jim has secreted, the old woman attempts to kill her own son. Finding Jim unconscious from a knife wound, Mary flees for help to Dr. Mulford. The doctor saves Jim but advises him to redeem himself. Jim does so and after returning the stolen jewels, reconciles with Mary.
