Synopsis
Norton, a cold-blooded mine owner, sells two stockbroker acquaintances short and causes them financial ruin on a copper stock deal. By introducing Norton to Yvette, an adventuress, Ranson, the younger of the two stockbrokers, vows to wreak a costly revenge. Norton has many romantic trysts with Yvette and eventually his invalid wife discovers his infidelity and dies of a brokenheart. After Norton marries Yvette, Lois, his daughter, returns home from boarding school. While Yvette turns Lois out, Ranson ruins Norton on Wall Street. Because he can no longer support her financially, Yvette dumps Norton and he becomes a derelict. To further harass Norton's family, Yvette hires "The Rat" to molest Lois, but Norton rescues her in time. Eventually, Ranson is killed and after Yvette is accused of his murder, Lois and her rehabilitated father reunite.
