Synopsis

The marriage between McTeague, a dentist, and Trina becomes intolerably strained after she wins $5,000 in a lottery but refuses to share it with her husband. Then Marcus Schuller, a jilted suitor of Trina, gets his revenge by notifying the authorities that McTeague has no license to practice dentistry. Now out of a job, McTeague tries even harder to make Trina give him some money, and when she turns him down, he strangles her and takes the lottery prize. McTeague goes to Death Valley to get away from the police, and Marcus, eager to avenge Trina's death, follows him there. The two men confront each other in the desert and McTeague kills Marcus, but then discovers that, during the fight, he became handcuffed to him. Because he has to drag a dead body in the sweltering heat, McTeague's own death is now assured.
