Synopsis

Lola and Valasquez, two adventurers, turn their scheming attentions on Archibald Rivers, a banker who is also the guardian of Mary Harrison and her sizable fortune. Seduced by Lola, Rivers uses Mary's already squandered trust fund to buy Lola expensive gifts. To her surprise, Lola falls in love with Rivers and, in the heat of passion, decides to murder his wife. After reading about the intrigues of the Italian Renaissance Borgia family, Lola buys a cobra, extracts some of its venom and plants it in a ring. At a masked ball hosted by Mrs. Rivers, Lola pricks her unsuspecting rival, who promptly dies. Donald, Rivers' stepson and Mary's fiancé, suspects foul play and begins an intensive investigation. With Mary's trust fund completely depleted, Rivers pressures Mary to marry him, but he is soon murdered. Caught by Donald's rigorous sleuthing, Lola kills herself with her ring.
