Synopsis
Upon returning to London and civilization after an extended African trip, a young explorer falls in love and becomes engaged. Later, he returns to Africa and is assigned to an expedition with his fiancée's former lover. The jilted lover's jealousy leads him to concoct a scheme whereby he will to lose the explorer in the jungle depths. In the middle of the night, the jilted lover springs upon his rival and leaves him for dead. Afterward, the expedition is attacked by some cannibals, and all are killed, including the duplicitous lover. When a company of hunters discovers the massacre, they mistake the murderer for his victim, bury him and notify the man's fiancée. The young man survived, however, and upon retracing his steps, comes upon his grave marker. Hurrying back to London, the young man learns that his fiancée is to be married to a politician. Heartbroken, the explorer returns to Africa. Still in love with the explorer, the girl tells the politician that she does not love him and intends to sail to Africa in pursuit of her true love. There, she is reunited with the explorer and after their wedding, they decide to remain in Africa.
