Synopsis

At a reception, Mrs. Carey hears her husband, a noted engineer, comment that he would divorce her if he ever learned that there was a thief in the family. The next evening, after her husband leaves, Mrs. Carey puts her three-year-old daughter to bed and thinks about her father, who lost his fortune and died, and her brother, who later was arrested for burglary. Just then, a masked man breaks in and awakens the child while he searches for plans for an invention. When Mrs. Carey enters with a revolver, the burglar reveals himself to be her brother. Mrs. Carey puts the gun down, and when the child puts it into her mouth, the brother calms her and retrieves the gun. After Carey arrives and shoots the fleeing man, the wounded brother is arrested. The brother's gang later breaks in and steals the papers, but the brother, now released, returns them. When a gang member tries to kidnap the child, the brother wounds him and grabs a motorcycle to retrieve the runaway buggy carrying the child. Mrs. Carey confesses, and Carey gives the brother a good position at his South American plant after he promises never to return.
