Synopsis

Nancy Carter marries Robert Gill secretly, but regrets her decision when Robert breaks his promise to her and becomes drunk. The next day a remorseful Robert kills himself, leaving Nancy to raise their unborn child alone. Twenty years pass and the Civil War begins. Now the family is headed by Colonel Carter of the Southern Army. He objects to the romance of his niece Laura Gill with a young Union Army officer, Tom Kutchen; but after the end of the war, Colonel Carter relents and Tom and Laura are able to marry.
