Synopsis

A hunchback plots revenge against a beautiful American woman who, while vacationing in Egypt, scorned him. Years later in America, the woman's stepdaughter, Elaine Arthur, is lured into show business by the hunchback, who assists her in becoming a dancer. Accompanied by the hunchback and her suitor John Butler, she tours the country as "The Butterfly." During a performance near Elaine's hometown, her stepmother, sister, and an old admirer appear in the audience. The hunchback, enraged at the sight of the stepmother, follows her to her hotel room and stabs her to death. He then flees and falls from a cliff. The hunchback's murder is blamed on Butler, who escapes with Elaine in a freight car. After detectives trace them to a distant town, Elaine learns that the hunchback confessed before dying. She proves Butler's innocence and they marry.
