Synopsis

Cheated out of her inheritance by Samuel Kingman, her lawyer, Mary Wilson must find lodging in a boardinghouse populated by a gang of thieves. After she agrees to pawn stolen jewelry for Dan Reedy, the gang leader, Mary is initiated into the group and aids in a number of crimes. Later she meets Ralph Kingman, Samuel's son, and hearing of his job as a clerk in a manufacturing firm, plots revenge against the father. By encouraging him to fall in love with her, Mary pushes Ralph into embezzling $30,000 from the firm. Ralph's employer discovers the theft and threatens Mr. Kingman with prosecution. When Mary learns of Ralph's plight, she becomes suddenly remorseful and makes monetary amends through her lawyer. Still in love, Ralph proposes to Mary, but she chooses to elope with Dan, who pledges to help her find the way back to virtuous living.
