Synopsis

Paul Martin, a weak-willed young man with a penchant for gambling, loses all his money at the palatial gambling house of Grimshaw, a wealthy gambler, who invites Paul to his home after Paul's parents order him out. Later, Grimshaw reveals that he is the leader of a band of society thieves and persuades Paul to participate in their next robbery. Paul is sent to the suburban home of Kirkland, a millionaire, to learn the location of a valuable string of pearls. Paul becomes infatuated with Kirkland's daughter Beth and tries to get Grimshaw to stop the robbery. Grimshaw, however, laughs and knocks Paul unconscious with a blackjack. At the Kirkland house, Beth manages to call for help before Grimshaw threatens her with a gun. After Paul regains consciousness and follows, he and Beth keep them occupied until help arrives. One thief, "Chicago Red," is shot, while Grimshaw escapes and shouts that Paul is one of the gang. After Grimshaw loses control of his automobile and goes over a cliff, Paul confesses and is forgiven by Beth and her father.
