Synopsis

Anthony Andrews, a New York gang leader and saloon keeper known as "Andy," leaves the slums to vacation in a small fishing town. After he rescues Nellie, a farmer's daughter, they marry against her father's wishes. Upon returning to the city, Andy resumes his gangland activities without Nellie's knowledge. Heated rivalry develops between Andy, who is campaigning for political boss Michael Hogan, and Joe Martin, the leader of a rival gang, who works for opposing boss Gerald Dobbs. Although both Andy and Martin buy votes, Hogan wins. At the victory ball, Martin and his men start a gunfight in which Andy is shot in the hand. Nellie reads a front page story about the incident and decides to leave, but when Andy relates that after a happy childhood on a farm, the death of his father and forfeiture of his home caused him to move to the city slums, Nellie acknowledges that he is a victim of his environment. They begin a new life on her father's farm.
