Synopsis
At the age of nine, William Hallet momentarily forgets his little sweetheart, Pauline Avon, and becomes infatuated with Frances, a charming young woman. Amused and flattered, Frances confesses that she is already engaged, but the memory of the lovestruck boy remains with her. Years later, Will and Pauline marry, but following the death of their baby, Pauline becomes despondent and ignores her husband. Frances, who has re-established her friendship with Will, discovers that she is incurably ill, and as Will is preparing to leave on a business trip, Frances writes her husband a note stating that she is running away with a man who has always loved her. She then boards Will's train, but when he realizes her intentions, he returns to her home and retrieves the note. Later, however, Pauline finds the note, and she and Will separate. Several years afterwards, Will rescues Pauline from a burning building, and they are reconciled.
