Synopsis
Barnard's painting, "The Resurrection," is so successful that the young artist decides to attempt a companion portrait to be entitled, "The Fallen Woman." In search of a model, Barnard visits the night court, where he meets Irene Brock, who has just served a ninety-day sentence for prostitution. The artist takes Irene to his studio, but soon after he begins his work, he is called away. Left alone in the studio, Irene is tempted to steal his watch, but when she catches sight of the inspired image of "The Resurrection," she shamefully replaces it. The painting effects such a change in Irene that she is no longer able to pose as the "Fallen Woman," but as she is leaving the studio, she and Barnard embrace, suddenly realizing that they are in love. Barnard's mother, a leading society matron, orders her son to end the romance, and when he refuses to do so, she appeals to Irene. Realizing that marriage with her would make Barnard a social outcast, Irene steals into the studio for a final look at "The Resurrection" and then continues her life in solitude.
