Synopsis

When a friend tells him that he lacks the skills and the courage to fend for himself, Geoffrey Manning, a member of the idle rich, leaves home to prove otherwise. Rejected by a series of employers because of his limited experience, Geoffrey finally lands a job in his father's steel mill, working for low wages under an assumed name. A dedicated worker, Geoffrey receives several promotions and becomes a respected labor leader, advocating better treatment for his father's employees. Never revealing his true identity, he woos Harmony Laurie, a local music teacher, and then saves her from a mill fire in time to intercede in a strike dispute between the mill workers and his father. Overjoyed at his son's growth and success, Mr. Manning gives in to his workers' demands, and Geoffrey marries Harmony, secure in his new manhood and inheritance.
