Synopsis
Flo Burke, a cabaret singer, is offered a part in a musical comedy by theatrical magnate Oscar Morse, who demands sexual favors in return for the role. Choosing virtue over opportunity, Flo turns down the role but later tricks Morse into signing a contract with her. Although her stage debut brings instant success, Flo's name is linked notoriously with Morse. While vacationing, Flo meets and falls in love with the Reverend Robert Fenton, never telling him about her occupation or past. Later she resolves to quit the stage and marry Fenton but discovers a clause in her contract that refers to a $20,000 forfeit fee. After a train wreck kills her crippled sister, Flo takes her sibling's name and weds Fenton, but Morse finds her and threatens to expose her unless she pays the forfeit. A fight between the Fenton butler and Morse ensues and ends when Morse accidentally shoots himself. Upon the death of her nemesis, Flo confesses everything to her husband and frees herself from her labyrinth of lies.

Notes
The Plaza theater in New York was used in one scene. In this film, the entire cast from Ned Wayburn's Town Topics, which opened on September 23, 1915 at the Century Theater, recreated the second act of that play before a live audience, with Gail Kane playing the principal role. The book of that musical was written by Harry B. Smith and Thomas Gray; the music was by Harold Orlob.
