Synopsis

While stealing the fabulous Romanoff diamonds, Brazilian adventuress Maria is surprised by her former accomplice Don Plon, who takes the jewels from her. Some time later, Maria marries wealthy New York banker Bulford whom Plon writes in the hopes of returning the diamonds to their rightful owner before his death. Accompanied by Dick Brummage, a detective, Bulford rushes to Plon's apartment but finds him dead, and the jewels gone. Without Bulford's knowledge, Maria has secured the jewels, but when he finds incriminating letters in Plon's apartment, he confronts her. During his rage, he has a seizure, which Maria pretends to calm with wine, actually laced with poison. She blames her husband's death on Frank Lavelot, a dismissed employee, whom she further implicates by kidnapping him with the help of her brother. Mary, Frank's sister and Dick's fiancée, obtains proof of Maria's guilt when she enters her employ disguised as a maid. Frank escapes, and Mary, whose life is jeapordized by Maria, is saved by Dick. At a reception, Maria triumphantly wears the stolen diamonds, but when confronted by Dick, she drinks poison and dies.
