Synopsis

After stenographer Ruth Lester resigns to avoid the advances of her boss, the chief of police, she gets a position with District Attorney Anthony Curtis, a fighter for reform who is unpopular with police officials. Curtis, who falls in love with Ruth, asks her to accompany him in an official capacity to the mountains for a needed rest. When Ruth slips while fishing, Curtis catches her and they embrace. As he proposes, spies sent by the police chief and Mason Clark, a crooked contractor whom Anthony is working to ruin, take photographs which appear in newspapers illustrating a trumped-up "white slavery" scandal. Thinking that Ruth framed him, Anthony fires her. She goes to work for Clark, and lures him to a hotel where they are arrested for breaking a hotel ordinance. During the subsequent trial, Ruth lies and ruins her reputation, until she gets Clark, who loves his children, to agree to confess to Anthony's frame-up. Afterward, Anthony and Ruth are reunited.
