Synopsis

At a charity benefit, Captain Doane falls in love with Jane Lambert, the daughter of a retired general. When Jane's brother Jack steals the contributions to pay his own gambling debts, Doane takes the blame, thus horrifying the Lamberts. Doane is drummed out of the service, but re-enlists under an assumed name and becomes Jack's orderly during the Boer War. When Doane distinguishes himself in battle, Jack is so ashamed that he writes a letter exonerating his friend. Without Jack's knowledge, Doane destroys the letter, and later saves Jack's life in battle. Doane is himself blinded, but he is finally reconciled to the Lamberts when Jack tells them of his own guilt. Jane then vows to devote her life to Doane's care and he is cited for bravery.
