Synopsis

Quaker minister David Corson is so fascinated with the gypsy girl Pepeeta that he leaves his home to join her "owner" Dr. Parcelsus' traveling medicine show. When David discovers that Parcelsus and Pepeeta are married, he bribes a minister to tell her that the ceremony was illegal, and the two lovers run away. Parcelsus follows them and blinds David in a fight, after which he becomes a pathetic drunk. He is helped by Andy MacFarlane, a kindly lumberjack who had once been inspired by David's religious fervor. Eventually Paracelsus dies and David and Pepeeta are able to return home as lawful man and wife.
