Synopsis

The Archduke of an old world kingdom, accompanied by his son, the legitimate heir, and the son of Prime Minister Ferdinand Von Stroebel, sail for America after disclaiming the pretender to the throne, Karl, the Archduchess' son. Years pass, and the Archduchess hires two assassins who stab the rightful heir. The youth recovers, but his father dies of the shock. On his deathbed, the Archduke gives Von Stroebel's son, who has assumed the name John Armitage, papers proving the heir's identity to take to Venetia. Armitage says goodby to his sweetheart, Virginian Shirley Claiborne, and embarks on his mission. In Venetia, the Archduchess engineers the assassination of the prime minister and the theft of the documents. At Emperor Charles Louis' command, Armitage recovers the papers and the succession of the legitimate heir is certain. Armitage reveals his true identity to Shirley and receives permission to marry her.
