Synopsis

Philip Lee conspires to usurp his cousin Margaret's inheritance when she marries circus performer Bob Wilson. Four years later, when Margaret and Bob return home with their daughter Nell, Philip tries to cheat them again, leading to an altercation which results in Bob's insanity. Later, when Margaret dies in a circus accident, Prinsey, the clown, takes Nell. Philip secretly marries Marie, another circus performer, but eighteen years later, he has deserted her and their child. When Nell, now a star, gives a performance in Margaret's home town, Ned Tracy, whose sister is engaged to Philip, falls in love with her, and Marie recognizes her husband in the audience. She confronts him, but he boasts that she has no proof of their marriage. Meanwhile, the circus owner tries to force himself on Nell, but is restrained by Prinsey, who is then fired. Nell leaves with him, taking Marie's child with them while Marie looks for proof of her marriage. Seeking shelter in a barn, they again encounter Ned who thinks that the child is Nell's. In the end, Nell is reconciled with her grandfather and marries Ned, who also provides for Marie and her child.
