Synopsis

New York City Police Detective Craig and his men track down a gang of counterfeiters, but they are unable to prove that the men are circulating bad money, although they suspect that their leader is clever crook James Dalton. Dalton passes the bad money onto unsuspecting "fences," such as naïve spendthrift Bob Brierly, who is caught and sentenced to four years in prison. After his release, Brierly marries Mae Edwards, his loyal girlfriend, and becomes a bank clerk. Learning of Brierly's new position, Dalton tries to use him to rob a bank, but Brierly refuses, after which Dalton sees to it that Dalton is fired as a counterfeiter. After several similar incidents, Brierly agrees to Dalton's plan, but writes a note warning bank president Gibson. Craig is called into the case, and in the end, after a thrilling chase and Dalton's death, Craig is able to exonerate Brierly, who is hired back by Gibson.
