Synopsis

Oklahoma attorney Al Jennings, the son of a distinguished jurist, is embittered by the death of his brother Ed, who was shot from behind by two thugs. Falsely accused of robbery, Al is ambushed and wounded by a posse and retaliates by robbing a country store. He soon becomes the leader of a gang of outlaws who make their headquarters at the Spike S. Ranch. After a series of robberies, Al and his brother Frank plan their final heist but are arrested by Sheriff Ledbitter before they can get away. Al is sentenced to life in prison in a Columbus penitentiary, and despite his attempted escape, his cause is championed by Mark Hanna, who eventually is able to obtain a presidential pardon for him. Al returns home and resumes his law practice, resisting the temptations of his criminal friends. Later he marries and wages a strong gubernatorial campaign.
