Synopsis

As a result of engineer Bill Travers' drunkenness, two workers are injured by a falling hoist at the Blue Top Quarries. When Mr. Eastman, the quarry's owner, dismisses Travers, he retaliates by kidnapping Eastman's baby. During the abduction, Travers' accomplice is shot and injured by Eastman, but the men manage to make their way to a remote mountain hideout with the child. Mrs. Eastman, overcome by the loss of her baby, is treated by Doc, an impoverished young physician, who later is taken - blindfolded and on horseback - by Travers to his hideout. Doc discovers the child while treating the kidnapper's wounds, and later notifies the sheriff. When Travers is apprehended, he refuses to disclose the infant's whereabouts, but Doc, relying on his horse's instinct, leads the rescue party to the cabin. The Eastmans get their baby back, and Doc is rewarded by being named the company physician.

Notes

According to a news item in Moving Picture World June 27, 1914, Doc was going to be the first three reel feature of the Eleanor Gates Photo Play Co., and was to be directed by Richard Garrick. Another news item in that same issue gave all of the cast members listed above and added Alfred Grady, "Baby" Grau and "Dolly," the horse. It said that the director would be David Garrick. It is unknown whether or not the added cast ever appeared in the completed production. Bosburn Photoplay Co. May have been jointly owned by Herbert Boswick and Vivian Blackburn, and that company May have taken over production of the film from Gates.
