Synopsis

Because he is unable to provide his wife Emma with the luxuries to which she is accustomed, Joe Brooks falls prey to his scheming employer, Captain Williams, a jealous former suitor of Emma. Williams places Joe in charge of the company payroll money and arranges for detectives to catch him stealing. Faced with a prison term, a desperate Joe begs Emma to intercede for him. When Jimsey, a friend of both Joe and Emma, learns of her mission, he tells Captain Williams that his life will be in danger if Emma's honor is compromised. Jimsey's threat, along with Emma's pleas, persuade Captain Williams to withdraw the charges against Joe, but Emma later divorces her cowardly husband to marry Jimsey.
