Synopsis

In South Africa, British farmer Silas Croft raises Jess and Bess, the two daughters of his deceased sister. Both women fall in love with John Neil, Croft's protégé, much to the consternation of Frank Mueller, a cruel and influential Boer who desires Bess. During the Boer War of 1880, Mueller entraps Neil and Jess, but the two escape. Mueller then abducts Croft and tells Bess that he will kill her uncle unless she marries him. Jess surprises the sleeping Mueller and stabs him to death, afterwards dying of exhaustion. Croft, Bess, and Neil are delivered by British troops and then Bess and Neil marry and return to England.
