Synopsis
Biograph summary: An artist is at work on a large portrait, when the maid enters with a glass of beer which she places on a stand in front of the easel. The artist steps aside for an instant, when the figure in the portrait reaches out of the canvas, and taking up the beer, drinks it. The artist comes in and putting down his lighted cigar, picks up the glass, only to find the beer gone. He calls the maid, and while talking with her about the sudden disappearance, the figure in the portrait takes up the cigar and smokes it. The artist and maid see this, and are amazed. The artist rushes to the easel, takes off the canvas and turns it about, showing that it is nothing but a painted canvas.
