Synopsis
Judge Francois Marcorelle finds himself drawn into a series of surprising events. Neglecting to join his wife and children on vacation, Marcorelle meets waitress Agneska and goes home with her. After a violent altercation with her father, Marcorelle hits the man over the head with a bottle, killing him. Agneska assures Marcorelle that she will dispose of the body and so he flees. When there is no news of the murder, Marcorelle thinks he is in the clear but his conscience haunts him. Marcorelle grows more fearful when ambitious young lawyer Fourcade starts investigating Marcorelle to further his own career.
