Synopsis
One day, long ago, in a small kingdom belonging to a Tsar, the British emissary announces his intention to visit for dinner. The Tsar is covered with embarrassment- for his storerooms are quite bare. He therefore instructs his huntsman, Fedot, to go out into the forest and shoot a partridge. Fedot sets out on his task but cannot spot a single partridge. Instead, Fedot comes across a dove, which promises to serve him faithfully should he spare its life. Fedot takes the dove home where it immediately turns into a charming wife for him, named Marusia. With the help of two ravens at her command, Marusia succeeds in filling the Tsar's table with an abundance of delicious and succulent dishes. The Tsar continues to command Fedot to travel far and wide to procure for him the strangest things. However, when the Tsar demands something "that doesn't exist", Fedot must set out hopelessly into the wide world; his journey takes him as far as America and, when he returns, nothing is the same as it once was...
