Synopsis
In 1996, acclaimed filmmaker Lars Von Trier undertook an ambitious experiment in power and control. For two months, 53 actors inhabited 19 rooms of a Copenhagen museum, improvising a complex melodrama in which Von Trier and a colony of ants in New Mexico dictated their moods and motivations. The film focuses on the participants in this highly manipulative performance. Mentally exhausted, the actors lose themselves in the experiment, and the boundaries between fact and fiction begin to shift. As reality and theater blur together, the high concept art piece becomes a mesmerizing portrait of people whose lives-fictional or not-are being turned inside out.
