Synopsis
In the early 1960's, in a small German town, 11 year old Anna is about to experience a summer full of surprises. Straddled with the care of a whining brother, and an alcoholic mother, her one wish in life is to have a real father. When she asks about him, Anna finds out about her mother's great love and despair: Fritz, the hero who returned from one war only to leave for the next one, died long ago. But her mother has drowned her sorrows in alcohol one too many times, and on her death bed she confesses the truth about Anna's father.
