Synopsis
Fabian, a young man claiming to be a magician, visits the Falklands Islands on a holiday but the results of his clandestine filming provides disturbing viewing. His daily adventures through the community's institutions are brilliantly documented, blisteringly exposing the bureaucracy and anachronisms of this 'little England'. As he makes his way from the prim church to the aptly named Globe nightclub, we are lured into his confidence, becoming complicit voyeurs in his odyssey. As such his dogged seduction of local girl Camilla is both an unsettling observation of his clinical plan and an honest dissection of the sometimes embarrassing rituals of courtship. Beneath the quaint veneer of provincial life and social propriety, festers an ugly anti-Argentine feeling which the eponymous protagonist deftly exposes.
