Synopsis
A struggle of wills plays out between a young Russian TV journalist, who represents the "New Russia" of money and conspicuous consumption, and her clinically depressed mother, an educated woman reduced to poverty and despair in the valueless society of today's post-Communist Russia. The mother often remembers the optimistic years of her youth, the period of the Khruschev "thaw" when young Russians could imagine an evolution toward a more humanistic future society.
