Synopsis

Britain, along with the US and under the auspices of the UN Security Council, refuses to rescind or even relax the severe economic sanctions which have been in force against Iraq for nine years. And they continue to wage an almost never reported war through air strikes on the beleaguered country. The result is an abomination: 4,000 children under the age of five dying every month; a population so exposed to radiation from munitions made from depleted uranium that 50 per cent of the people have the potential to develop cancers; and hospitals crammed with the sick but no drugs. Journalist John Pilger explores the consequences and motives of the economic sanctions against Iraq since the Gulf War.
