Synopsis

One rainy and windy night, two young men are travelling to Nakchon, a small village in Southern Cholla Province. Jae-hyun is here because he is trying to escape from his debts in Seoul. Pan Cheol-gu is hardly any better: everything he tries seems to end in failure. Even suicide. Suddenly, across the street from his room at the inn, Pan sees the sign of a funeral parlour. This must be an omen, he decides; he'll become an undertaker. Jae-hyun's grandfather wants him to learn the mortician's trade but Jae-hyun sees the funeral parlour as nothing more than a good site for a video arcade. Dae-shik, the son of the local supermarket owner, on the other hand, actually wants to learn the trade, and Jae-hyun's grandfather is willing to teach him. There's only one problem: no one has died in Nakchon for the past ten years and there's no way for any of the would-be undertakers to get any practical training.
