Synopsis
A musical on the fast life and mysterious assassination of the celebrated Havana rumbero, Papa Montero. The tale opens with a funeral procession where the mourners are dancing to a rhythmic rumba beat while the pallbearers slap the coffin, as if it were an instrument. The staged scene is actually part of a production for a film about Papa Montero. The director and producers for the film bring their cast and cameras to the Havana neighborhood where Papa Montero earned his fame as the top rumbero of the 1920s and 1930s. Shooting in the alleys, bars and boulevards of Havana, the film crew create grand musical numbers which recall the events that brought Papa Montero to an early departure. While the filmmakers are involved in their biopic, a mysterious old man watching the production drops curious hints on the true nature of Papa Montero's premature demise.
