Synopsis

Miles from the glittering skyscrapers of Hong Kong lie the New Town urban developments: block after block of sterile concrete monoliths that take in Hong Kong's overflow population like a grungy sponge. The schools are holding pens, the infrastructure is endlessly collapsing, fun is a smoke-filled karaoke room, and life seems to be happening somewhere else. Through the tacky malls of the New Towns, past collisions with hit-and-run boyfriends, we follow four Hello Kitty-loving, pill-popping, shoplifting schoolgirls - Bean Curd, Sissy, Cookie and Banana, as they experience teen angst transmuted into near-religious illumination by an all-encompassing humanity.
