Synopsis
An adventurous journey by two women from Geneva to Kabul on the eve of the second World War. The writer Annemarie Schwarzenbach, who hopes to find her inner self in the "Valley of Good Fortune", is joined on a voyage of discovery by the ethnologist Ella Maillart who proffers a scientific pretext for her decision to travel: she wants to explore the mysterious Kafiristan Valley in order to make a name for herself with publications about the archaic life of the nomads there. However, when the two women arrive in Kabul, war breaks out and puts an end to their plans. Neither of them reaches her 'valley'.
