Synopsis
The life of poet Ibrahim Kadir at the time of the mass murders in 1960s Indonesia. The figures about the number of victims in that period vary from a half to two million. The immediate cause of the massacres was the murder of seven generals in Jakarta, on October 12, 1965. The government blamed the Communist rebels and ordered mass arrests and executions. The poet Ibrahim Kadir, from rebellious Atjeh, was accused of being a Communist activist. He was jailed without any form of trial. There he witnessed the mental hell of the people on death row and a variety of cruel executions. Kadir himself was released after 22 days, on the grounds that he had been arrested by mistake.
