Film is the latest in a new series of movies based on the character Inspector Martin Beck. Beck first appeared in 10 novels written by Maj Sowall and Per Wahloo in the 1960s and 70s. Many of these were later adapted into films. This film is part of a new series of Beck movies based on new stories written by author Rolf Borjlind with the permission of creator Sjowall. Other films in the series include director Pelle Seth's "Beck" (Sweden/Germany/Denmark/1997) and Morten Arnfred's "Beck 2" (Sweden/Germany/Denmark/1997).
