Synopsis

A hundred-mile stretch of the Mississippi River, between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is called Cancer Alley. It holds over 150 petrochemical plants, and the inhabitants, living on polluted land they can never sell, are condemned to illness and poverty. The chemical companies make many crucial products -- including the film with which the documentary was shot -- and yet their wealth helps produce the poverty of this "modern plantation."
