Synopsis
10-year-old Joseph is sent away from his childhood village to attend boarding school. At first, Joseph does not fit in and, being poor, goes hungry. Gradually, however, he befriends Tom Chacha, an eccentric cook, and is accepted by the other boys. Joseph learns to look beyond his own problems when he befriends Sandu, a far poorer and hungrier Siddi (or black) boy. Shocked by the desperate poverty in which Sandu's family lives, Joseph courts trouble by stealing food from school for Sandu.
